Istanbul with abundant shopping centers has high popularity among of fans for buying. Lokum, Halva, Jacinth … are Istanbul famous souvenirs. Akmerkez: Akmerkez is a shopping mall located in the Etiler quarter of Istanbul, Turkey. It was commissioned on December 18, 1993 by a joint venture of the Akkök, Tekfen and İstikbal companies. In 1995, Akmerkez was chosen as the best shopping center in Europe by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). In the competition, organized by this same council, Akmerkez was recognized as the best shopping center in the world in 1996. It also received the highest accolade given by the ICSC, the International Design and Development Award. It is the only shopping center in the world to receive both of these awards. The Spice Bazaar, (Turkish: Mısır Çarşısı, or Egyptian Bazaar) in Istanbul, Turkey is one of the oldest bazaars in the city. Located in Eminönü, it is the second largest covered shopping complex after the Grand Bazaar. Cevahir Shopping Centre: Opened on 15 October 2005, is a modern shopping and entertainment centre located in the Şişli district of Istanbul, Turkey. Called also Şişli Kültür ve Ticaret Merkezi (Şişli Cultural and Trade Centre). Cevahir Mall is the largest shopping centre in Europe, and the sixth largest in the world. Istinye Park: This is a shopping center in the İstinye quarter of Istanbul, Turkey with 291 stores, 85,250 sqm of retail area, and four levels of underground parking. The center features both enclosed and open air sections. The open air section has a green central park and offers street side shopping. The center includes an authentic Turkish food bazaar- a traditional market place, inspired by Turkish architecture and history. The Grand Bazaar: (Turkish: Kapalıçarşı, meaning Covered Bazaar) in Istanbul is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with more than 58 covered streets and over 1,200 shops which attract between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily. Opened in 1461, it is well known for its jewelry, pottery, spice, and carpet shops. Many of the stalls in the bazaar are grouped by the type of goods, with special areas for leather coats, gold jewelry and the like. The bazaar contains two bedestens (domed masonry structures built for storage and safe keeping), the first of which was constructed between 1455 and 1461 by the order of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. The bazaar was vastly enlarged in the 16th century, during the reign of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, and in 1894 underwent a major restoration following an earthquake. The Arasta Bazaar: This bazaar in Istanbul is a small market close to the Sultan Ahmed Mosque. It is known for its jewelry, pottery, spice, textiles, and carpet shops. As opposed to the large crowds at the Grand Bazaar, the Arasta Bazaar is more low-key. Located at the Arasta Bazaar is the Great Palace Mosaic Museum. Olivium: Opened on April 1, 2000, is a modern outlet shopping mall located in the working class district of Zeytinburnu in Istanbul, Turkey. It was established by a joint venture of the companies Emintaş and İleri Mensucat being the first in its category as an outlet center in Istanbul and the biggest in Turkey. The shopping center, situated right outside of the ancient city walls of Istanbul, initially featured 25 stores, but extended to 118 shops today, some of them offering world-renowned labels. Olivium covers area of 45,000 m² on 4 floors and has a parking lot with a capacity of 1,000 cars in 2 additional floors. The center offers to the visitors also a supermarket, 6 movie theaters, a theater, a bowling alley with 15 lanes, a variety of fast food restaurants and cafeterias.
